Picture
This beer from Lagunitas Brewing Company pours like a typical jet black stout. It initially forms a generous fluffy tan head that evaporates and leaves little lacing. From the nose, you won’t be sure this is a Russian Imperial stout. It smells like sour red grape and Hershey’s chocolate milk syrup. There is a noticeable booze aroma too. The taste, just like the aroma, is sour red grapes and chocolate syrup. It has a surprisingly mild palate without much bitterness or aftertaste. It will dry your mouth out with sourness, though. It doesn’t have the roasty notes of a good Imperial stout, and the alcohol is very prominent for an 8.6% ABV beer. Overall, it’s a good drinkable stout.
